CAL FIRE NEWS RELEASE
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection CONTACT: Abby Dawson, PIO 530-257-4171 RELEASE DATE: November 4, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Susanville - With the prior and forecasted widespread precipitation throughout the area, the CAL FIRE Lassen Modoc Unit Chief will remove the requirement to obtain a burn permit to conduct outdoor burning effective November 7, 2025, at 7:00 am. Anyone conducting any type of burning may still be held criminally and/or civilly liable for any escaped burn. The reduction of the requirement to obtain a permit affects all areas of State Responsibility Area (SRA) within Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas Counties. Citizens should always practice safe burning practices such as not burning on windy days, remaining in attendance with their burn piles and always calling the respective air district first to ensure it is a permissive air quality bum day. The air quality phone number is (530)251-4403. Air pollution control districts may fine those who burn on days determined to be "No burn days." As always, anyone burning on property not under their legal authority must obtain permission from the property owner and present it upon request.
